CNA Classes in Colorado (CO)

To become a CNA in Colorado, you have to take the training program. You must also pass the test.

The State Board of Nursing reviews and approves the programs.  They use the Pearson Vue group for testing. The standards of the ‘National Nurse Aide Assessment Program’ (NNAAP) are used for written and skill testing.

Requirements:

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must pass a physical with drug test and TB test
  • Show proof of immunizations
  • Turn in the required forms to DADS and received approval letter
  • Pass a background check
  • Have a current CPR card

To Apply: 

  • RN or LPN without CNA certification can apply without taking the training
  • LPT, LPN or RN from other states can apply without taking the training
  • A nurse who has gone through training outside of the US can take the test
  • Nurses from other states who lack CNA certification can take the test
  • A CNA whose license has expired can take the test to reactivate his/her license

All others must take the training before taking the test.

Fees: 

The cost is between a few hundred dollars to $1000. If you are working while training, your employer will pay the fees.

  • Written and skill test- $95
  • Skills and Oral in Spanish/English- $95
  • Oral English/Spanish- $25
  • Written only- $25
  • Skills only- $70

Facts:

  • Programs are between 90 and 160 hours. They are divided between classroom lectures and clinical skills.
  • You can find sample test questions here.
  • You have 120 days to complete the training and qualify for the test.
  • You will be registered on the Nurse Aide Registry after passing the written (oral) and skill tests. You must take the test within a period of 24 months.

The CNA certification expires in two years. It must be renewed every two years. You will get a notice in the mail 2-3 months before it expires. Contact the CNA registry to renew.
