CNA Classes in Mississippi (MS)

If you want to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Mississippi, you must take the training program approved by the ‘Mississippi State Department of Health Bureau of Health Licensure and Certification’. After taking the number hours of CNA training you need, you then have pass an exam to get on the state’s registry. Only after you do can you work as a CNA in Mississippi.

The exam you have to pass follows national guidelines.

Before You Start.

You can apply to an approved training programs only if:

  • You are least 18.
  • You have a GED or High School graduation.
  • When you finish your course you will get permission to take the exam.
  • You must not have a criminal history. You need to have the criminal background check.
  • You have to pass complete physical testing, including drug screening and TB skin testing.

How to Apply.

You do not have to take the training if you are any of these;

  • A Graduate  Nurses.
  • You have been a CNA before.
  • You are a foreign or out of state RN.
  • There is an agreement that if you are a CNA from somewhere else, you can work in Mississippi.

In any of these cases you can take the exam without training. If you pass you will get registered. Then you will appear on Mississippi’s registry.

If you have to take the training you must go to the official website of the state’s CNA certification.
The Mississippi approved training course takes about 3-to-6 months to finish. You are allowed to work during the training. For example, you can have a job in a medical center or nursing home.


To get the nursing aide training, you need to spend nearly $1000. This does not count testing fees. The fees for the testing are as follows:

  • Written and Skills Test- $101.
  • Written only- $ 32.
  • Skills and Oral- $ 101.
  • Skills only- $ 69.
  • Oral English- $ 32.

Certificate Renewal.

If CNAs have been out of the work for the past 2 years then their CNA license lapses. If this happens you need to get it renewed. The certificate can be renewed if you have worked for at least 8 hours every 2 years. A renewal is mailed to your address before the license runs out.

Must know Facts.

  • You get 2 years after you have done your training to pass the exam. This include the Written and Skills sections. If you do not pass, you need to retrain and test again.
  • Mississippi needs employability assessments.
  • If you are trained and are also working at skilled nursing facilities, you have to get the CNA license of the state within 120 days of doing your training course. If you don’t then you are taken out of the nursing service.
  • Mississippi says that all long term nursing care facilities must not hire CNA students unless they are enrolled in an approved training program or are state approved certified nursing aides.
